Everything in our world is an expression of who and what we are either inividually or collectively as a people.
The things we see around us aren’t necessarily a perfect expression of each individual but they are a perfect collective expression – a smoothing out or averaging, so to speak – of what we are together as a people. And this is precisely what gives the idea behind YourOwnDoorStep.com its power. The more of us who take responsibility for improving ourselves and for making our own tiny little piece of the world a better place, the more influence we will have on that collective expression. What most of us are, the world will come to be.
Before human beings came into the picture there were no buildings or highways, no governments or political borders, no technology, no music, no corporations, no rich or poor, no policy, no crime, justice or judgment, no sense of entitlement. Tangible or intangible, if it wasn’t here before us we almost certainly created it.
In order to create something we first need to have an idea of it, then we can bring it to life. The means of implementation aren’t so important but the ideas we have say something very profound about who we are and what we value. They are, in a very real way, a means of self expression. This is true of everything from music, dance and painting to corporations, political systems and technology – regardless of the medium or the result, everything we create is an expression of who we are.
This applies to political systems and governments in the same way it applies to music or technology. We create political systems and ideologies as a means of expressing and preserving what we believe and value. We create our governments to regulate our society in a way that is consistent with those beliefs and values. The larger structures and systems in our society are all intimately tied to who we are.
Any one of us can create music or, at least conceptually, a piece of technology. Really, any one of us could even dream up a new political system or ideology. But to create and implement things on a large scale – things like governments, social systems, culture – we all need to participate. And for the most part, we all do in one way or another. We don’t usually look at it this way, but each individual that’s part of a society helps to create that society, so the society itself is a collective expression of the people who are part of and create it.
So while the world around us isn’t a perfect expression of each individual, it’s a perfect collective expression of who we are as a people. This is why the YourOwnDoorStep.com approach has the promise and the power to create meaningful change.
